St Augustine's College

An education in the marist tradition

Trade Training Centre

The technics building houses the Design and Technologies Department and the Trade Training Centre. The Design and Technologies Department caters for all ability levels through a design approach to learning about technologies.

Students in Years 7 and 8 complete an introduction to the subject by studying compulsory units of work while those in Years 9 and 10 are offered electives. The Trade Training Centre is equipped for senior students wishing to pursue careers in the construction or metal trades.

In this building the boys complete design and theory lessons using the latest computer aided design and drafting programs, and they construct their designed projects in four workshops. For senior subjects, like engineering and design, students have access to the latest in 3D printing and laser cutting machines.

The metal Trade Training Centre has equipment for mig and tig welding, lathe and milling work, oxy/acetylene welding and cutting, drilling and guillotine cutting sheet metal. Here the boys fabricate projects such as fishing gaffs, sand anchors, collapsible shovels and bench vices.

The construction covered area houses the tradies trailer from where students do carpentry, block laying, setting out and levelling and use hand and power tools. The culmination of this course is the construction of a cubby house using the principles of house construction.
