The College is well known in Cairns for the extent of its community service. All students are urged to become actively involved in fund-raising and in practical community service. This is seen as an important ingredient in any authentic Christian education.
As well as structured community service in the Religious Education programme, students are urged to volunteer their time in door-knocks, collections, “Rosies”, and other practical service projects. During Lent a special focus is given to aid for Marist missionaries and aid projects overseas. In Term 4, a fund-raising night is held for a Marist school in a remote part of India with which St Augustine's has established a sponsoring relationship.
A key factor in any community service or fund-raising activity is the educational dimension. As a Christian school, St Augustine's is committed to the view that it educates its students to have a strong and informed social conscience. They are encouraged to form the attitude that justice and fairness are foundational Christian and societal values.
